Dr. Lushanya Echeverria

Dr. Lushanya Echeverria is an Indigenous educator, organizational leader, storyteller, writer, speaker, and community builder. An enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, she brings doctoral expertise in educational leadership together with the wisdom of her Lakota heritage and matriarchal lineage.

Lushanya designs transformative educational programs, coordinates complex events and ceremonies, manages community-centered projects, and facilitates meaningful conversations across differences. Her work encompasses curriculum development, strategic planning, community mediation, public speaking, fundraising, nonprofit leadership, and the creation of culturally grounded spaces where people can learn, heal, and grow.

As Executive Director and Spiritual Leader of Kunsi Keya Tamakoce, Lushanya carries forward a legacy of Two-Spirit inclusion, land-based care, intergenerational learning, and Lakota ceremony. She leads with a rare combination of vision and practicality—moving projects from early ideas through planning, collaboration, implementation, and completion.

Grounded in Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and a commitment to collective wellbeing, Lushanya’s work challenges systems that alienate and marginalize while creating pathways toward belonging, accountability, and meaningful change. Whether guiding a classroom, coordinating a gathering, supporting a team, or navigating a difficult community conversation, she brings clarity, warmth, courage, and deep respect for the people involved.
